Bai Kamara 1974- 2025

I think it was 2013 when Bai first joined 1 of our rides, initially quite cagey about his work, saying that he ‘worked with the Police’, only after 3 or 4 rides did he admit he was actually a detective in the fraud department, always likable & with a huge smiling face. It was during the Covid pandemic, when the Government announced, we could ‘exercise in small groups of 6’, I asked for volunteers to lead a sub-group, Bai was 1 of the first to put his hand up, as time progressed & rules were relaxed a little, we did realise that smaller groups actually helped the ride flow better & the LCC decided a maximum of 15 in a group, plus Leader & Marshals, Bai remained the most consistant, reliable group leader & sometimes if I was away on Holiday, he would lead the whole ride. When in 2023 we started the Fun Family rides, again Bai was 1 of the first to offer to help marshal the rides, even if the first ride didn’t go as smooth as we hoped, Bai ending up shepherding 1 youngster on a Balance Bike, he wasn’t deterred, he continued to lead a group or Marshal a ride until the end.

No words can express the feeling we all have at this sad time. Shock and heartbreak was the feeling on Sunday when we met for our ride. I feel very lucky to have shared cycle holidays and local rides with this amazing man. Bai was always happy, hungry, caring, reliable and could light up an unlit room. Miss you……Chris x

I have known Bai from when he started cycling at Kingston. Many rides, many adventures, and lots and lots of fun.The news was a shattering and upsetting shock.

That evening my mind kept going through the interactions we had on our recent group cycle France holiday….

His loud outrageous orangutan impression, his determination to cycle up hills in hot humid weather, his concern to eat in a restaurant that catered for coeliacs (me), his desire to ensure members reached their accomodation safely, his rapid and sometimes risky funny wit, his quiet fascination and curiosity in the butterfly house, his physical ability to lift and mend cycles, his marvelling of the wooden church at Honfleur, his help and encouragement to meet the cycle challenges like the climbing of the Pont De Normandie bridge. A man of many qualities.

Always aware, attentive, sharing and giving to all, and always with a kind smile.

He is very much missed.Carl 🚲🚲🚲

  3. I am crushed by the loss of this larger than life beautiful man. He was such a joy to be around, always happy and beaming from ear to hear. The very best of us. RIP Bai.

I can’t believe Bai is not with us anymore: his loud laugh was contagious, it was impossible to be sad with him around. I had the honour of knowing him and doing many rides with him, always a smile for everyone, always a joke to lighten the mood when things were not the best. You will be dearly missed. ❤
