Hammersmith Bridge (sans Traffic)

Wednesday 21st August, a bright Sunny day saw 15 Cyclists leave via Skerne Rd, Latchmere, Ham gate Richmond Park, White Lodge, Roehampton Gate, -with the first of 4 Level Crossings, with a long wait, shortly followed by the 2nd Crossing 😦 -, Barnes, the ‘Cyclists delight’, Traffic free Hammersmith Bridge 🙂, (surface not so delightful 😦) (Photo), Hammersmith, Ravenscourt Park, Wendell, Acton Park,- 3rd Level crossing, another age before the Train appeared-, North Ealing, Pitshanger Park, Footbridge to Perivale, Gr. Union Canal Path, to Greenford for lunch at ‘the Black Horse’, afterwards, with the Towpath closed for repairs, (to Ellie’s delight), a detour via Oldfield Lane, & Ferrymead, more Greenford, Southall, Norwood Green, Osterley Park, Hounslow, Whitton, to Kneller Gdns for Tea & Refreshments, Twickenham, Strawberry Hill, fourth Crossing, -only a short wait this time-, Teddington, Hampton Wick, Kingston Bridge. Total 30 Miles, 2 new face’s, thanks to Steph for Back marking, and others for marking corners.

Sunday 22nd May. A bright Sunny day, saw 30 (yes thirty) Cyclists leave via, Skerne Rd, (in the midst of being relaid), towpath to Ham, Aerospace estate, Ham common, Ham gate of Richmond park to Sheen gate, East Sheen, Mortlake, Chiswick bridge, Grove park, Chiswick, Acton, Acton park, (with a level crossing closure causing a brief split), West Acton, Park Royal, Grand union canal towpath to Greenford for lunch at ‘the Black Horse’, then more Towpath, (where a low hanging branch led to a fall, thankfully only minor grazes to arm & knee), Southall, Norwood green, Osterley park, with a visit from the ‘P fairy’, Osterley, Isleworth, Whitton to Knellor Gdns for Tea & BP, (thanks to Derek, for admirably filling in for John), with some desperate to get back, whilst others were still consuming the refreshments, a forward group led by Steve went via Fulwell, Teddington, Hampton wick to Kingston, with the 2nd group following the same route a short time later. Sunday 24th April. A mostly cloud covered day with a chilly breeze, saw 23 Cyclists leave via Canbury gardens, Lower Ham rd, Aerospace estate, Ham, Ham gate of Richmond park, White lodge,  Roehampton gate, Barnes common, Putney, Putney bridge, Fulham, Parsons green, Stamford bridge, Brompton Cemetery, West Kensington, Kensington gardens, Hyde park, Paddington, Paddington basin, Grand union canal to Little Venice for lunch at ‘the Warwick castle’, afterwards back to the Canal, via Kensal green & Willesden to Park Royal, then West Acton, (where the first visit of the day from the ‘P fairy’, caused Tony to abandon the ride as he didn’t have a spare tube, lesson to all me thinks, carry a spare tube for your bike,) Acton central, to Acton park cafe for Tea & BP, then South Acton, Chiswick park, (with a small breakaway being ‘shepherded back on course by Mike), Chiswick green, Grove park, (where the second visit from the ‘P fairy’, being swiftly repaired, but a ‘forward party needing onward travel, led by Steve, continuing), Chiswick bridge, Mortlake, (with a ‘flooded towpath & Road), East Sheen, Sheen gate of Richmond park, White lodge, Ham cross, Kingston gate to Kingston. Total 34 Miles, 3 new faces. Special thanks to Mike & Steve, as well as others for help in marshaling the ride, and of course thanks to John for the BP, and acting as backmarker. Sunday 21st February. A mostly cloudy day with strong blustery winds saw 19 Cyclists leave via, Canbury gardens, Ham, Teddington footbridge, Strawberry hill, Twickenham, St. Margerets, Isleworth, Syon park, Brentford, Grand union towpath to Hanwell, for lunch at ‘the Fox’, then Hanwell viaduct, West Ealing, Ealing, West Acton, Acton park, Stamford, Ravenscourt park, Hammersmith, Fulham to Bishops park for Tea & BP, Putney bridge, Putney, Barnes common,where the ‘P fairy’ (or perhaps a faulty Tyre) left 1 member looking for a train from nearby Barnes station, the remainder continued to Roehampton gate of Richmond park, to Kingston gate, to the Market place. Total 30 Miles, 1 new face, 1 Puncture.

Bread Pudding ride to Harlesden

Sunday 26th April

A chilly overcast, but dry day saw 17 Cyclists leave via Skerne Rd, tow-path to Ham, Aerospace estate, Ham, Ham gate of Richmond park to Richmond gate, Kew Rd, Kew bridge, Brentford, where a minor saddle slippage was rectified, South Ealing, West Ealing, Pitshanger park, Perivale where Derek suffered a major wheel problem, caused him to abandon the ride, but the remainder found the Grand union canal tow-path to Harlesden for lunch at ‘the Grand Junction Arms’. Afterwards, more tow-path to Ladbroke Grove, North Kensington, under the Westway, (thanks to Nick for that link), Shepherds bush, Brook Green, Barons Court, Fulham to Bishops park for Tea & BP, then Putney Bridge, Putney, Barnes common, Roehampton gate of Richmond park, to Kingston gate, to Market place. Total 32 Miles, 6 new faces.

A mostly bright morning saw 15 Cyclists leave via Canbury Gardens, Tow-path to Ham, Aerospace estate, Ham, Ham gate of Richmond park, Roehampton gate, Barnes common, Putney, Putney Bridge, Fulham, Parsons green, Brompton Cemetery, West Kensington, Kensington gardens, Hyde park, Paddington Basin to Little Venice for lunch at ‘the Warwick Castle’.Afterwards, with increasing threats of Rain which were soon delivered along with a very cold head wind, along the Grand union Canal to Park Royal, West Acton, North Ealing, Ealing Common to Gunnersbury park, With Iyad suffering a fall resulting in a few Bruises just before the Tea stop with BP, then more Gunnersbury park, Kew Bridge, Kew Rd, Richmond, Richmond park, to Kingston gate and Kingston. Total 31 Miles, 3 new faces.
