Rogers review of 2025

Once again the Sunday or Bread Pudding rides started the year quite often with 20 plus, so often 2 groups needed, usually Bai leading a 2nd group on a Sunday, (more about Bai shortly), later in the year both Andrea C & Celia helped lead a 2nd group. A few of the new places we stopped, Royal Oak New Malden (2 part), Blue Anchor (Bai ride), Royal George (Christmas ride)

The big sad & shocking news this year has been the death of our really good friend Bai, I know everyone who new him is equally devasted at such tragic news, as evidenced by the large collection we had in his memory, we decided after much debate to split the money 2 ways, half to the Autism charity suggested by Bai’s family, half to Wheels for All, which helps people with disabilities to cycle locally at the Kingsmeadow track in Kingston. We also held a tribute ride for Bai, with the afternoon stop at Andrea E’s home & delightful garden in Chipstead, many tributes & poems in memory of our wonderful friend, RIP big fella.

Midweek rides also needed a 2nd group on occasion, thanks to Celia & Mags particularly for leading a 2nd group, & in July when I had been called for Jury service, Steph N agreed to lead a ride, to Fairoaks Airport Cafe.

Evening rides this year, alas we had to miss the usual meet up on Richmond Hill, as many were away in Normandy France during that week, we still met up with a few other cyclists 1 week later. We also arranged to meet up with John D on another evening.

Special thanks to all the group leaders that helped lead rides this year, also thanks to all the back markers that are a crucial part of the ride team.

To finish the year, London Cycling Campaign told me that I had been nominated for an LCC Award, so with some trepidation I went to a church in Soho, with a few supporters, to see what category, & if we were winners or not.

It soon transpired that, together with Suzanne (KCC committee), we were joint winners of the Joyful Cycling award! Thank-you to whoever nominated us.
