Dieppe weekend 2015

Day 1. A cloudy but otherwise dry day saw 4 intrepid Cyclists gather at Tolworth, for the journey via the Hogsmill path, West Ewell, Epsom, Langley vale, Headley, Pebblecombe, Betchworth, then Reigate garden centre for Tea, then Earlswood common, Redhill Airfield, Smallfield, Crawley down to Turners hill for lunch at ‘the Crown’. Continuing via Ardingly, Lindfield, Scaynes hill, Wivelsfield, green to Plumpton for more refreshments at ‘the Plough’, then Chiltington, Offham, Kingston, (near Lewis), Rodmell to Southease for our stay at the YHA, before an Evening walk back to Rodmell for Dinner at the ‘Abergavenny Arms’. Total 54 Miles.

Day 2. A mostly bright morning saw us go the 4 Miles to Newhaven to catch the 9.00am Ferry to Dieppe, then a quick tour of the town before descending on the ‘Hotel De La Plage’, refreshing ourselves before heading for the Town hall, only to find we now had to head for the start point of the Randonee to meet the usual Dignatries & speeches.

Day 3. A Hot Sunny day saw a total of 7 Bedwell Wheelers opting for the 60 Km ride with 6 going for the longer 100 Km, via Arques La Bataille, St Germain, La Chaussee, Cropus, Beau Manoir, Mathonville, pausing briefly for refreshments, then Les Grandes Ventes, Freuville & Avenue Verte to St Aubin le Cauf for lunch, also with the 60 Km folk, then Dampierre St Nicolas, St Nicolas D’Aliermont, Notre Dame D’Aliermont, Douvrend, Le Hamel, Fumechon, Bailly en Riviere, St. Ouen Sous Bailly, Auberville, Envermeu for more refreshments, then Bellengrevillette, Sauchay Le Bas, Martin-Eglise, Etran to Dieppe. Total 100 Km, (64 Miles) then came the presentations with BW getting the trophy for 3rd largest team with 13. After a change of outfits Dinner was taken at the nearby Hotel Windsor.

Day 4. With 1 person deciding to change to the early ferry, 3 Cycled to the port for the 12.30 Ferry back to Newhaven, & a further 8 taking the 18.30 ferry, all arriving safely, with 3 staying in the ‘Newhaven lodge’, the Majority letting the train take the strain.

Day 5. Just 2 Cyclists were ready for the final leg on a Hot sunny day via Piddinghoe, Rodmell, Kingston, Offham, Plumpton green, Wivelsfield, Lindfield to Ardingly for Tea, then Turners hill, Crawley Down, Smallfield to Outwood for lunch at ‘the Castle’, then Ridge green, Nutfield, Merstham, Gatton bottom for Tea & cakes at ‘Fanny’s farm’, then Chipstead where it was found best to go our seperate ways. Total 45 Miles 1 Puncture.
